Lamberts
Bay, known by many as the Diamond of the West Coast, is a popular
seaside village located about 250 km north of Cape Town. The
picturesque seaside village owes its existence to its humble
beginnings as a fishing town, though nowadays fishing has seen a
slight decline in Lamberts Bay. There are however several seafood
restaurants along the beach that specialise in crayfish. The Crayfish
and Cultural Festival is held every year in March.
Lamberts
Bay has become well known for its long stretches of clean sandy
beaches and abundant marine life which gathers in the cool waters.
Dolphins, whales and seals can be seen along the coast. Lamberts Bay
is also a great place to witness the colourful profusion of wild
field flowers that blanket the region during spring. Bird Island is
another major attraction in Lamberts Bay. The island protects a large
colony of gannets as well as several other aquatic birds and mammals.
Bird Watchers will also enjoy Jakkal's River Lake, which has large
flocks of various wetland birds, including pelicans, pink flamingos,
and waders.
The small towns has an approximate population of
around 1000, mostly supported by the potato and fish factories. The
small West Coast dorpie has a few convenience stores, a pharmacy,
petrol station, hardware store and most other basic amenities. Buying
