Dullstroom, situated in the Mpumalanga Highlands, was established in the early 1880's by Dutch settlers, and lies approximately halfway between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. Dullstroom lies on the R540 which provides easy access to the N4 and N11 highways

In this region of the eastern escarpment frost is common, and occasionally snow blankets the area too. Dullstroom receives an average rainfall of approximately 660mm of rain per year, with most of it occurring during the summer months. The average summer temperature is in the region of 22 ºC.
