The tranquil Eastern Cape village of Kei Mouth lies situated on the south bank of the Kei River, and an hour north east of East London. The small Wild Coast village was established by the British as part of a buffer zone intended as a defense against warring Xhosa tribes after the 8th Frontier War, but today serves mainly as a popular holiday and retirement retirement destination.
Location
Kei Mouth lies on the R349 regional route which connects the village to East London and Morgans Bay. It also lies in close proximity to the N2 national highway allowing convenient access to KwaZulu Natal in the north, and Port Elizabeth and the Western Cape in the South.

The village also offers excellent opportunities for fishing, while other activities in the area include scenic horse trails, abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking, 4x4 game viewing and birdwatching.
